Highway Department

This department is under the purview of the Road and Bridge Committee, whose meetings fall on the first Wednesday of the month. Minutes and agendas can be viewed on Road and Bridge Committee page. Meeting minutes from the previous month will be reviewed and approved at the next months meeting.

The Highway Department is comprised of one engineer, one office manager, and six maintainers. The Highway Department maintains 128 miles of roadway and ROW, 41 miles of which are asphalt and the other 87 miles are chipseal. The county engineer is the bridge manager for 167 bridges in Washington County.

The Highway Department works in tandem with elected road commissioners in the accounting of all 16 township’s Motor Fuel Tax budgets. There are 663 miles of township road in Washington County.
